This year Monifieth Rotary have selected Guide Dogs UK as their nominated charity for the Golf Day. Guide Dogs was established in 1931 in the UK. Their services for blind and partially sighted people have had a life changing impact. Known primarily for their guide dog service which relies initially on volunteer puppy raisers to train and develop the guide dog puppies from 8 weeks old for the first year of their life. A further period of training follows with Guide Dog trainers before these dogs are matched with a blind or partially sighted person.

Talk to any blind person about the impact their guide dog makes on their life and you realise how crucial this service is.

None of this comes about without a substantial but worthwhile cost.  It costs over £50,000 to train for and maintain a guide dog partnership and a blind person could have up to 8 guide dogs in their lifetime. There are currently 3695 guide dog partnerships in the UK. Guide Dogs UK offer a range of other vital services for blind and partially sighted people.
Money raised at the Golf Day will pay for the naming of a guide dog puppy and towards the training of that future guide dog. Monifieth Rotary are delighted that Kilmac Construction have agreed to be the main sponsor of the Golf Day this year and have asked them to name the guide dog puppy.
